TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Ju Percussion Group will journey to Greece and Ghana in June as its 40th anniversary approaches.
As part of the ensemble’s five-year Odyssey Project, two teams of six will travel to the countries for 10-day exchanges with local arts communities, per Performing Arts Redefined. These visits aim to deepen the ensemble’s global engagement with percussion cultures.
The name draws inspiration from Homer’s ancient Greek epic, which chronicles the long and arduous journey of Odysseus returning home after the Trojan War, per CNA.
Artistic Director Ju Tzong-Ching (朱宗慶) noted the name’s symbolism. “It represents life’s trials, wisdom, courage, perseverance, and the search for meaning — all values that reflect our group’s spirit,” he said.
Ju explained that turning 40 is a milestone for the ensemble, marking a time for innovation and renewal. “Odyssey” serves as a plan for transformation, aiming not only to absorb international cultural influences but also to showcase Taiwan’s percussion strengths on the world stage.
“Taiwan is the world, and the world is Taiwan,” Ju said. “We will make the most of this rare opportunity, using our professional strength to fuel transformation and synergy with our upcoming world tour.”
