TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan can help the US to strengthen non-Chinese supply chains and combat origin laundering, Cabinet Secretary-General Kung Ming-hsin (龔明鑫) said on Tuesday.
Kung concluded a trip to the US to attend the SelectUSA Investment Summit in Maryland. According to the Cabinet, he conveyed to US officials that “a stronger United States makes Taiwan safer, and a stronger Taiwan can ease America’s burden."
He hoped that under US President Donald Trump, there would be further advances in global economic security and supply chain resilience. He said Taiwan could work with the US to build up non-Chinese supply chains in key industries. Taiwan could also help the US with export controls and preventing illegal transshipment and origin laundering, he said
Kung said that Taiwan can support the US’ reindustrialization efforts, but this would require the US to make it easier for Taiwanese firms to continue investment and procurement. He expressed optimism about the ongoing Taiwan–US tariff negotiations.
During his trip, Kung presided over the signing of an MOU for economic cooperation between the Chinese International Economic Cooperation Association and the US–Taiwan Business Council.
Taiwan sent the largest delegation to the SelectUSA Investment Summit, with 138 Taiwanese companies participating.
