TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) is set to be the final torchbearer at the opening ceremony of the World Masters Games on Saturday night in Taipei.
He will join Olympic gold-medal boxer Lin Yu-ting (林郁婷), actress-director Sylvia Chang (張艾嘉), baseball’s Peng Cheng-min (彭政閔), and centenarian badminton player Lin Yu-mao (林友茂), per Rti. The ceremony will commence 7 p.m. at the Taipei Dome.
A 62-year-old sports enthusiast, Huang was quoted by the World Masters organizing committee as saying, “The best sport is the one you are willing to keep doing.”
Before the ceremony, the “Parade of Dreams” will commence at 5:30 p.m. from Taipei City Hall. Over 10,000 participants are expected to march in a lively procession to Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall.
The ceremony, which has the theme “We Share the Same Sky,” aims to include athletes of diverse ages. The sky symbolizes unity and inclusiveness through the energy of the sun.
Beyond the ceremony, there will be CPBL baseball club cheerleading team dances, guest performers, and more. The organizers intend to present a blend of traditional culture and contemporary creativity to celebrate sports for all.
This marks the first time that the World Masters Games, which have been held every four years since their establishment in 1984, will be held in Asia. Around 25,000 athletes from 107 countries are expected to take part.
