TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — US Representative Judy Chu (趙美心) on Saturday urged the government to quickly finalize a double taxation avoidance agreement with Taiwan.
Speaking at the Taiwanese American Heritage Week Fair in Monterey Park, Chu said Taiwan is one of America’s top 10 trading partners but remains the only one without such an agreement. She noted that the bill has already passed the House of Representatives and expressed hope that the Senate would follow suit soon, per CNA.
Chu emphasized that Taiwan is a leading democracy in Asia and an important US ally. Its strong global economic standing is closely tied to its democratic system, she said.
James Chi (紀欽耀), director-general of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles, said Taiwan's visibility in the US has significantly increased in recent years. He expressed hope that Taiwanese American Heritage Week would continue to promote the Taiwanese spirit across the country.
The fair is hosted by the Taiwanese American community in Greater Los Angeles. With a history of over 20 years, the event showcased Taiwanese cuisine and featured live performances of Taiwanese pop music and dance.
