TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Heavy rains hit the Hualien area on Sunday afternoon, causing a landslide at 4:40 p.m. with rocks falling onto the Taiwan Railway tracks between Heren and Chongde stations.
TRA said the North-Link Line was interrupted in both directions with repair workers deployed at 7:00 p.m. Passengers were soon transferred to shuttle buses to complete their journey, and service disruption is expected to continue on Monday, per CNA.
According to on-site reports, one power pole collapsed, disrupting signal communications, with about 3,000 cubic meters of earth and rocks covering the tracks.

On Sunday night, southbound trains originating in Taipei traveled only as far as Yilan's Suaoxin Station. TRA also said the sightseeing train “Shanlan," organized by Lion Travel, was also affected, with the group tour switching to a special coach bus for travel back to Taipei.
Travel disruption will continue throughout Monday, with repairs estimated to conclude around midnight. Those traveling along the east coast are advised to check with TRA for full schedule information.
