TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s diplomatic allies supported its international participation on Sunday.
During a customary diplomatic reception hosted by Taiwan, 11 allies backed Taiwan’s inclusion in the World Health Assembly and other global organizations, CNA reported. Only the Vatican did not express support. Many officials from non-diplomatic partner countries also attended the event.
Haiti Health Minister Bertrand Sinal reaffirmed his nation’s longstanding support for Taiwan’s global participation. He noted that a Haitian public health delegation was impressed by Taiwan’s advanced digital health technology during a recent visit.
Sinal said the bilateral partnership is based on the shared values of self-determination, mutual respect, solidarity, and loyalty.
Sinal’s commitment to Taiwan comes after Haiti took part in the China-CELAC (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States) Forum in Beijing.
Palau’s Vice President Raynold Oilouch thanked Taiwan for its contributions to improving Palau’s health infrastructure. He said Palau will continue to do everything it can at every WHA to ensure that Taiwan has its “rightful place” at the table.
European lawmakers from the Formosa Club in Europe penned a joint letter on Friday voicing support for Taiwan’s inclusion in the 78th World Health Assembly to World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
Taiwan has sent a delegation led by Health and Welfare Minister Chiu Tai-yuan (邱泰源) to hold sideline meetings and promote its cause during the 78th WHA, which begins on Monday.
