TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) praised the high-tech partnership between Taiwan and the US in an interview published on Monday.
Speaking to Arabic newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat, Lin said, “Taiwan’s comprehensive industrial capabilities and strong intellectual property protection measures make it an essential and trusted partner for the US in building resilient and strategic supply chains.”
Lin noted that the US became the top destination for Taiwanese overseas investment in 2023. Taiwanese investments contribute to US manufacturing and help create job opportunities, he said.
“Taiwan will continue to work with the US and other like-minded countries through the initiative on semiconductor supply chain partnerships to build a more resilient and diversified supply network,” the foreign minister added.
In response to Trump’s proposed global tariffs, President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) has proposed forming a US investment team, citing America’s strengths in technology, capital, and talent, Lin said. “We will draw on these strengths to form a Taiwan-US joint fleet that will create win-win outcomes for both countries,” he said.
