TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The Ministry of National Defense All-out Defense Mobilization Agency will send delegations to the US and Europe to study how they handle civil defense and reservists, reports said Tuesday.
A NT$4.04 million (US$134,000) budget has been drawn up for three trips and meetings in 2025, per CNA. In the US, the delegation will study the methods of mobilization conducted by the National Guard, while in Europe, the reservist system and civil defense will be the main topics of attention.
A similar program last year centered on Northern European countries, but because of the absence of diplomatic relations, its contents and results were not made public in order to guarantee continued cooperation in the future, the agency said.
The military said reserve and mobilization methods in Europe had markedly changed since the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. As a result, the agency was interested in learning about the latest experiences of countries in Northern and Eastern Europe. The subjects included civil defense training, emergency shelters, rescue work by firefighters, and food rationing.
