TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Ministry of National Defense on Wednesday said it is monitoring live-fire drills being conducted by the PLA in the Taiwan Strait.
China’s Maritime Safety Administration on Monday issued a navigation warning for live-fire drills off the coast of Shantou in Guangdong Province. According to the notice, the exercises will take place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on May 20-22 within a designated sea area marked by specific coordinates.
The defense ministry told CNA the military is aware of the routine exercises and planned training activities conducted by the Chinese military. The ministry said that it continues to closely monitor the PLA's movements.
The ministry added that China's live-fire exercises have had no impact on the safety of the seas and airspace surrounding Taiwan.
