TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Guam Governor Lourdes A. Leon Guerrero is leading a delegation to Taiwan on a week-long visit to promote bilateral cooperation.
Guerrero arrived on Sunday, marking her first visit to Taiwan since taking office in 2019, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She previously welcomed President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) during his South Pacific tour in December.
During her stay, Guerrero will meet with Lai and attend banquets hosted by the president and Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍). The delegation will also hold meetings with the Ministry of Transportation and engage with city mayors and representatives from Taiwan’s tourism, medical, agriculture, and fisheries sectors. They are scheduled to attend the Taipei Tourism Exposition as well.
Taiwan and Guam share Austronesian cultural roots and are democratic partners with a close and mutually beneficial relationship, the ministry said. Guerrero’s visit is expected to further strengthen these ties.
She is Guam’s ninth governor and the first woman to hold the position in the US island territory.
