TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The second annual Kaohsiung French Festival was held in southern Taiwan this weekend, drawing more than one hundred thousand people over the three-day weekend.
Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) shared photos of the festivities on social media on Sunday, inviting everyone to join on the last day of the event. The event was held at the Pier-2 Art Center near Kaohsiung Harbor May 23-25, and featured food and craft vendors along with musical performances, reported CNA.
According to the city, over 90,000 people attended the festival on Friday and Saturday. The attendance figures reveal the festival has grown in popularity compared to the inaugural Kaohsiung French Festival held last year.
One new attraction this year was a VR ocean cinema experience organized by the French Bureau in Taipei. Several short VR productions gave visitors the chance to appreciate new visual art while also reflecting on humankind’s relationship with nature, per CNA.

In addition to the usual offerings of food and music, the festival also organized family-friendly activities like field sport competitions and drawing booths. During the evening, the Kaohsiung Music Center was illuminated with the colors of the French flag to add to the festive environment.
Mayor Chen and the Kaohsiung City Government, along with the French Bureau in Taipei and other organizers thanked everyone for making this year’s French Festival a success.
