TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A European Parliament delegation arrived in Taiwan on Sunday to engage with top government officials and gain insights into the nation’s political and economic situation and future policy directions.
During their seven-day stay, the delegation will meet with President Lai Ching-te (賴清德), Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍), and attend a banquet hosted by Deputy Foreign Minister Wu Chih-chung (吳志中), according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The group will also discuss bilateral ties and regional security with legislators, government agencies, civil society organizations, and think tanks.
Delegation members include Reinis Poznaks, Beatrice Timgren, and European Parliament Policy Advisor Jens Vornoe.
MOFA said the European Parliament has consistently supported Taiwan through resolutions, joint letters, and parliamentary inquiries. In April, the parliament passed the annual reports on the implementation of the Common Foreign and Security Policy and the Common Security and Defence Policy, both of which condemned China’s escalating tensions in the Taiwan Strait and its continued distortion of UN General Assembly Resolution 2758. The reports also urged the EU to help strengthen Taiwan’s security resilience.
Taiwan will continue cooperation with like-minded European partners to jointly bolster democratic resilience and form “a robust and mutually beneficial alliance of shared values,” the foreign ministry said.
