TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Highway Bureau said the TPass 2.0 public transportation loyalty program has distributed NT$11.48 million (US$383,773) in rewards as of May 19, following its launch in January.
To date, more than 205,000 users have registered for the program. Over 140,000 fare cards qualify for cash-back incentives, according to CNA.
TPass 2.0 offers monthly rebates to users who register their fare cards and complete at least 11 public transportation rides per month. Rebates are calculated based on ride frequency, with higher usage yielding greater rewards.
In April, about 55,000 fare cards met the criteria for cash-back. The number is a 53.7% increase compared to February.
Among these, 32,000 cards qualified for city and intercity bus rebates, while 40,000 were eligible for additional rewards from rides taken on Taiwan Railways and the Taipei and New Taipei metro systems. Around 16,000 cards qualified for both categories.
The total reward amount issued in April reached NT$4.8 million, nearly doubling the February total. On average, users received NT$82 in rebates, while those who completed over 31 bus rides saw an average return of NT$210.
The bureau also reported a steady rise in usage of the TPass monthly commuter pass, with an average of 670,000 users reloading their passes each month between January and April. This marks a 5.9% year-on-year increase and reflects growing engagement with the TPass system since the loyalty program’s introduction.
However, the bureau noted that 69,000 eligible fare cards from February through March have yet to claim their rewards. Cardholders are reminded to collect their rebates within one year of the reward issuance date.
Claims can be made at any of the four major convenience store chains with staff assistance or through EasyCard add-value machines at Taipei MRT stations.
