TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) on Wednesday said Taiwan’s COVID response capacity is sufficient and urged the public not to stockpile supplies amid a recent rise in infections.
Lai said the outbreak is expected to peak in late June or early July, per CNA. He urged those who have not yet been vaccinated to get their shots promptly.
To reassure the public, Lai pointed out the CDC has already stockpiled ample vaccines and antiviral medications. “The public need not panic, much less stockpile supplies,” he said.
Lai added, “It’s best to wear a mask when visiting public places during this period.” He added that maintaining good hygiene practices is the foundation of disease prevention and can significantly reduce the risk of infection.
He expressed his gratitude to military personnel, police officers, firefighters, medical workers, and frontline staff responsible for utilities, transportation, and other key infrastructure who will remain on duty during the holiday. He praised their dedication, which make it possible for people to travel safely and enjoy the break.
