TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Singer Siri Lee’s (李竺芯) song “Je Prends, Je Prends, Je Vais Voir” was nominated for Song of the Year at the Golden Melody Awards.
Lee said at a Wednesday press conference that she screamed and clutched her head in disbelief when the news broke, per CNA. The song was born during a kitchen conversation with her mentor Chung Hsing-min (鍾興民) and took inspiration from comedian Hsu Hsiao-shun’s (許效舜) idea of “French-style Taiwanese,” per TVBS.
When Lee shared the news with her parents, she said her father did not react at first. “I sent him the article and he left me on read,” Lee recalled. “But the next day he went to a convenience store and combed through the newspapers looking for it.”
To stay grounded during the busy awards season, Lee said she carries a relic of Buddha Shakyamuni – a spiritual keepsake she also holds close when writing music. “It brings me peace,” she said.
Lee described the theme of her album as “being your true self,” reflecting her path to self-acceptance. As performance invitations pour in, she noted her income has grown, but her lifestyle hasn’t changed.
“I still wake up, make coffee, write songs, and go grocery shopping. Staying grounded is what matters.”
On the red carpet, she said she will wear whatever feels natural and revealed that her parents hope to walk it with her. “They are my lucky charms,” she said with a smile.
