TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A rice field in Miaoli’s Yuanli Township features a design of the Jurassic World movie logo.
The latest film in the Jurassic World series, "Jurassic World: Rebirth," is set to be released in Taiwan on July 4. According to the Yuanli Township Farmers' Association, the rice paddy art project helps promote the movie while also boosting local tourism.
The association said the rice paddy art covers about 2,700 square meters. The production team started planning in January, prepared the land in February, and planted the rice in March. More than 35,000 rice seedlings were used to create the dinosaur-themed design, per CNA.
The rice field art is open to visitors from Thursday through July 13. A viewing platform has been set up on-site, allowing visitors to see the full pattern from an elevated perspective.
The association said the township is known as the "granary of Miaoli." The association has been working with local farmers for more than 20 years to promote rice paddy art. The production team arranges rice plants of different colors to form patterns and characters.
The association emphasized the field art was not created using paint. Instead, the Taiwan Agricultural Research Institute has cultivated rice varieties with purple, red, yellow, and white leaves from originally green-leafed plants.
In June 2024, the association created an image of Mazu using six different colors of rice plants. The association added the team also produced designs featuring Chinese zodiac animals, holiday themes, and the leopard cat, a species native to Taiwan.
