TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A young fan attending a Taiwan Professional Baseball League game at Xinzhuang Baseball Stadium was hit in the eye by a foul ball on Saturday, suffering an orbital fracture.
The incident occurred during the top of the second inning of a game between the Fubon Guardians and the CTBC Brothers. The ball struck the boy in the stands, prompting immediate concern from nearby spectators and a response from the fire department, per CNA.
He remained conscious and was first taken to Fu Jen Catholic University Hospital for emergency treatment, then transferred to the Tri-Service General Hospital in Neihu for specialized care.
Doctors found that while his eyeball was not damaged, he sustained an orbital floor fracture and underwent surgery on Sunday morning. He remains hospitalized for observation and will require follow-up care.
The Fubon Guardians visited the boy after the game and presented him with a bat and jersey signed by the entire team. After learning that his favorite players are Dai Pei-fong (戴培峰) and Li Dong-ming (李東洺), the team also gave him their signed jerseys and baseballs.
The Guardians said they would cover all medical expenses and assist with any insurance claims. The boy thanked everyone for their concern and said he looked forward to returning to the stadium to cheer for his team once he recovers.
