TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Abico Group announced Monday that it will invest NT$300 million (US$10 million) in US-based Agility Robotics, a company developing humanoid robots for commercial use.
Agility Robotics is known for creating Digit, the world’s first bipedal robot designed for real-world warehouse and factory work, per CNA. The company has already deployed Digit with partners including Amazon and GXO Logistics, making it an early mover in the robotics market, per Anue.
Abico sees strong growth potential in humanoid robotics amid rising labor costs and workforce shortages in developed countries. The group previously invested in Mantis Robotics, with subsidiaries such as Abico Avy assisting in the production of robotic arms and proximity sensors.
Canon also announced plans to co-develop and manufacture vision modules for Agility’s robots, while Abico will provide contract manufacturing support through its production bases in Taiwan and Japan.
Additionally, Agility Robotics is a launch partner for Nvidia’s humanoid robot initiative, Project GR00T. By 2026, the company aims to deploy Digit at scale – safely operating alongside human workers without protective barriers – positioning itself for global sales by 2027.
Backed by investors including Playground Global and Amazon, Agility Robotics is one of the most prominent players in the emerging humanoid robotics space. Abico said the latest investment will accelerate its entry into the sector and strengthen its automation strategy.
