TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Army howitzers fired 155mm shells at the sea during two days of drills on the coast of Pingtung, reports said Wednesday.
The Army’s 43rd Artillery Command and the Hualien Defense Command lined up 28 howitzers along the coastline in Fenggang, per CNA. The Fourth Theater of Operations Command, which covers Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung, said the drills aimed to show its resolve and capability to defend the country.
The second day of the drills will see 16 howitzers fire shells at the same target area. The exercises are meant to train how to correctly load ammunition, handle the howitzers, and hit targets, according to the command.
The drills will fire 132 shells over the two days to give artillery troops more experience and show the usefulness of howitzers, the military said.
