TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Central Weather Administration announced on Thursday that a tropical depression will affect eastern Taiwan, bringing rain.
The CWA said Tropical Depression No. 02 formed at 8 p.m. Wednesday, per CNA. By 2 a.m. Thursday, it was located about 440 km southeast of Eluanbi and moving north-northwest.
The latest CWA map shows the tropical depression over eastern Taiwan by 8 p.m. It is forecast to bring rain to the south and east, with heavy rain advisories issued for Pingtung, Yilan, Hualien, and Taitung counties.

Wind gusts, reaching Beaufort scale 8 to 10, and rough seas are forecast for northern, eastern, and southern coastal waters. From central Taiwan northward, skies will be mostly cloudy with occasional showers or thunderstorms.
As of 2 a.m., Tropical Storm Wutip was located about 1,200 km southwest of Eluanbi, moving west-northwest. While it poses no direct threat to Taiwan, its northward movement could increase rainfall across the country.
