TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Mainland Affairs Council on Thursday criticized former President Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) for agreeing to attend a cross-strait forum organized by China.
The council said that Ma’s decision to cooperate with Beijing’s political maneuvering is inappropriate, per Liberty Times. It added that he should not enable China’s political agenda.
Taiwan Affairs Office Spokeswoman Zhu Fenglian (朱鳳蓮) said Wednesday more than 7,000 representatives from Taiwan’s political parties, labor unions, youth, women’s groups, and other sectors had been invited to the forum. She said Ma would lead a youth delegation to Fujian and Gansu between June 14 and 27.
The council said the cross-strait forum is a united front platform used by the CCP to target Taiwan. It noted that even during Ma’s presidency, the government established restrictions to prevent united front infiltration.
