TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Central Weather Administration forecast that due to the influence of a tropical depression, Taiwan will experience rainfall through Saturday.
The tropical depression made landfall in Hualien on Thursday night and moved offshore from the north early Friday morning. Despite the system's departure, its residual air currents continue to affect the nation, per Yahoo News.
From Friday through Saturday morning, Taiwan is expected to experience brief periods of heavy rain or thunderstorms. The south may see torrential rainfall, while heavy rain is also likely in the mountainous areas in central Taiwan and the east. Temperatures across the nation will range from 25 C to 33 C.
Due to heavy rainfall in mountainous areas on Friday, Kaohsiung City Government announced that some schools in these regions would suspend classes and work. As a precautionary measure against potential landslides, parts of the Southern Cross-Island Highway were also closed.
Strong gusts are possible along Taiwan's coast and offshore islands on Friday. Large waves may also affect the southern coast, Penghu, Lanyu, and Green Island.
From Saturday afternoon through Wednesday, central and southern regions are expected to see brief isolated showers, while other areas will be mostly cloudy. Between June 19 and 22, Taiwan is forecast to return to hot and partly cloudy weather, with a chance of afternoon showers across the country.
