TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Former President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) on Friday announced the Taiwan premiere of documentary “Invisible Nation” and urged political unity and the demonstration of Taiwan's resilience.
In a Facebook post, Tsai called on the public to watch the film in theaters and stressed that it is not a documentary about her but about Taiwan, per CNA. She said the film portrays how Taiwan has evolved from a once-overlooked and suppressed "invisible nation" to stepping onto the global stage.
Tsai said that through Taiwan's steadfast commitment to democratic values, embrace of a free and pluralistic society, and achievements in technology and economic prowess, "the world has finally started to see Taiwan.”
Tsai expressed her gratitude to director Vanessa Hope and her team for creating such a moving work. “They ensured that Taiwan’s story is no longer just a forgotten corner, but one that is truthfully documented, shared with the world, and freed from a fate of being overlooked and silenced."
She added, “This film also helps more people get to know Taiwan, a small, mountainous, yet beautiful and resilient country. ” Tsai reflected that being once "invisible" on the global stage helped Taiwan see itself more clearly.
The former president thanked the people of Taiwan for working with her during her eight years in office. She hoped the ruling and opposition parties unite and the nation continues moving forward.
