TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Next year will see nine long weekends, with the Lunar New Year holiday lasting nine days, the government said Friday.
Following legal amendments changing the number of holidays, the Directorate-General of Personnel Administration unveiled the public holiday schedule for 2026 on Friday. The Lunar New Year holiday will last from Saturday Feb. 14 through Sunday Feb. 22, per CNA.
Other long holidays include four days off for the Tomb Sweeping Festival April 3-6 and for the Mid-Autumn Festival and Teachers Day Sept. 25-28. The public will get three days off next year for Peace Memorial Day Feb. 27-March 1, Labor Day May 1-3, the Dragon Boat Festival June 19-21, the Double Ten National Day Oct. 9-11, Retrocession Day Oct. 24-26, and Constitution Day Dec. 25-27.
Because Jan. 1, 2026, falls on a Thursday, under present arrangements, there will be no day off the following day to attain a four-day vacation, the government said.
Due to the legislative amendments, there will also be changes for 2025. The introduction of Teachers Day as a public holiday sees the addition of a long weekend for Sept. 27-29 and of Retrocession Day for Oct. 24-26, CNA reported. Constitution Day will lead to an extra day off on Dec. 25, which is celebrated around much of the world as Christmas Day.
