TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Philippines will grant visa-free entry to Taiwanese travelers starting next month.
On Thursday, the Manila Economic and Cultural Office said that Taiwanese passport holders may enter the Philippines for tourism without a visa for up to 14 days, effective July 1, per CNA. The stay may not be extended, nor can the visitor change to another visa category during their stay.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the move, saying it will help deepen exchanges and cooperation between Taiwan and the Philippines in areas such as economy, trade, investment, and tourism. The ministry said that facilitating overseas travel for business and leisure, as well as promoting interactions with friendly nations, are among its top priorities.
The ministry said that on June 13, Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) confirmed at the Philippine Independence Day reception that Taiwan would extend its visa waiver program for Philippine nationals for another year. The Philippines’ decision to reciprocate by granting visa-free entry to Taiwanese passport holders is expected to further enhance bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, and tourism.
It added that the achievement was the result of years of coordination and negotiation between the two governments. The ministry credited the joint efforts of government agencies and the public, and highlighted the move as a concrete example of the foreign ministry’s “integrated diplomacy” in action.
Lin expressed appreciation for the Philippine government’s pragmatic efforts to advance Taiwan–Philippines relations. The ministry also reminded Taiwanese to comply with local laws and ensure their safety during their stay in the Philippines.
In case of emergencies, travelers are urged to contact Taiwan’s representative office in the Philippines for assistance.
