TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Global semiconductor association SEMI has chosen Arizona for the next edition of its SEMICON West trade fair, citing the state’s promising future, reports said Saturday.
The southwestern US state is likely to become a new Silicon Valley for semiconductors, said SEMI Global Chief Marketing Officer and SEMICON Taiwan President Terry Tsao (曹世綸). Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has selected Arizona as the site for its US chip fabs.
Tsao said that in the early years of semiconductor development, SEMI used SEMICON Taiwan to help bring the global semiconductor supply chain to Taiwan, per CNA.
After years of being held in San Francisco, SEMICON West will move to Arizona for the first time this year. The event is scheduled for Oct. 7–9 in Phoenix, with 1,500 booths planned. Tsao noted that demand has outpaced supply for the exhibition.
He added that TSMC played a key role in the revival of US chip manufacturing, with its investment in Arizona further contributing to the state’s growing importance in the industry.
