TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Siri Lee (李竺芯) took home the top prize of Album of the Year at the Golden Melody Awards held Saturday at the Taipei Arena, with her recent release "Sui" (水).

In her acceptance speech, she dedicated the album to everyone, not just female audiences, as she hoped her music could help people break free from stereotypes. Lee sings in Taiwanese and was the first such winner since Wubai's (伍佰) "Lonely Tree, Lonely Bird" (樹枝孤鳥) in 1999, per CNA. 

Lee also took home honors for Best Taiwanese Album and Best Taiwanese Female Singer.

Founded in 1990 by the Ministry of Culture, the jury selected awards recognizing outstanding achievement in Mandarin, Taiwanese, Hakka, and other Indigenous languages. Music recording or associated production does not need to be done in Taiwan, with GMA simply honoring music in different language categories.

A collaboration between Taiwanese indie band Sunset Rollercoaster and South Korea's Hyukoh on the album "AAA" also took home multiple awards: Best Vocal Album Recording, Best Album Design, and Best Music Video for the song "Antenna."

Another highlight of the event was the posthumous honor for Hong Kong American singer Khalil Fong (方大同) as the best composer and jury prize for his 2024 album, "The Dreamer" (夢想家). Fong recorded the album while confined to his home due to poor health.
