TAIPEI (Taiwan News) –The Uni-President Lions defeated the Rakuten Monkeys 4-1 on Sunday in Taoyuan to win their 18th first-half title in Taiwan's professional baseball league.
The victory came in the continuation of a game between the Lions and Monkeys that began on April 20 and was suspended by rain in the fourth inning with one out and the Lions batting with a 1-0 lead, per CNA.
It did not take the Lions long to add to their lead, as when play resumed, the first batter of the day, Chen Chung-yu (陳重羽), hit a pop fly that was caught by an infielder, allowing Lin Tzu-hao (林子豪) to advance from third base and score. The Lions added two more runs in the ninth inning for a 4-1 victory.

Taiwan's professional baseball league separates its season into two 60-game halves. The winners of each half are seeded in an end-of-year tournament dubbed the "Taiwan Series."
The team at the top of the standings at the end of each half is declared the champion. With Sunday's victory, the Lions clinched the title with 36 wins, followed by the Brothers with 34 wins and the Monkeys with 30 wins.
The Lions last won the half-season title last year, but the Brothers took the second-half title and used the momentum to win the Taiwan Series.
To celebrate the team's victory, Uni-President 7-Eleven announced several promotions available July 1-3, such as a "buy 2 get 2" promotion on coffee, latte, and tea, and a 50% discount on select items when purchasing a second item of the same category.
Mega Bank also announced that from July 1 to 4, holders of the bank's co-branded credit card with the Lions enjoy triple bonus points for general domestic consumption.
