TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – A cruise ship took 1,800 travelers from Hong Kong and Macau to Penghu on Tuesday morning.
The 77,740-tonne Star Voyager is the largest cruise ship to have docked at Magong so far this year, per CNA. The visitors are scheduled to spend half a day on the island county.
The ship sailed from Hong Kong to Kaohsiung before arriving in Penghu early Tuesday. Malaysian-owned Star Cruises has planned seven similar trips until October.
Representatives of the Penghu County Government and the Tourism Administration boarded the ship to present souvenirs to the visitors. Earlier this year, the Seabourn Quest, operated by Seabourn Cruise Lines, also docked in Penghu.
In 2024, Taiwan recorded 900,000 cruise travelers, including 316,000 from overseas, according to Taiwan International Ports Corporation. The company is expecting the number to rise to 980,000 in 2025, with visiting cruise ships increasing from 414 to 572.
