TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — iPass Money, Taiwan’s largest e-payment service by user count, said Wednesday it will end its cooperation with Line Pay at the end of the year.
All iPass functions available through the Line Pay wallet, including bill payments, top-ups, and withdrawals, will shift to its new app starting in January next year, per CNA. iPass explained that the move is aimed at strengthening the independence of its e-payment business and improving service.
Users who download and register the new app by July 31 and complete a Line friend transfer will receive 100 iPass Green Points as a welcome gift.
Line Pay said it is seeking its own e-payment license and hopes to secure approval this year, leading to the end of its cooperation with iPass. The company called iPass a valued partner and promised to continue protecting users’ rights until the partnership concludes.
iPass also outlined five key features for the new app, including support for over 8,000 bill payments, TWQR shared code compatibility, stored-value card integration, an “iPass Green Points” reward system, and a small-sum remittance service aimed at migrant workers from Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Thailand.
The remittance service, developed with Eastern Union Interactive, will link to apps like IndoMoney, VietMoney, PhilMoney, and ThaiMoney, benefiting around 820,000 migrant workers who rely on iPass to send funds home.
