TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Taoyuan International Airport Corp on Thursday estimated that during the peak summer travel period, there will be 13 days when daily passenger numbers may exceed 140,000.
TIAC said that between July 1 and Aug. 31, the airport will handle 40,359 flights, including 160 extra flights and 26 charters, averaging 651 flights per day, per CNA. Passenger volume during that time is projected to reach 8.53 million, potentially surpassing the 2019 summer figure of 8.52 million.
The busiest day is projected to be Aug. 24, with 141,400 travelers. Passengers are advised to confirm their passport validity and flight details before departure, arrive at the airport three hours early, and use smart services like mobile app check-in and self-service kiosks to reduce wait times.
Duty-free stores said outbound travel has picked up noticeably since late June. In response, they are increasing food and merchandise supplies to meet demand.
A woman surnamed Chen (陳), who is traveling to Japan, said she planned the trip immediately after the school semester ended to match her children's schedules. She added that starting early gives her children a chance to unwind and make lasting memories before joining summer camps.
A man surnamed Chu (朱) said he is taking his two teenage children to South Korea to fulfill their dreams of seeing their favorite pop stars. He said the family chose to travel at the start of the break to avoid crowds and give the kids time to refocus on school afterward.
TIAC added that passenger volume reached 19.57 million from January to May. The number surpassed 20 million on June 4, marking a recovery to 96.5% of 2019 levels for the same period.
