TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Team Taiwan achieved impressive victories at the World Police and Fire Games in the US this week.
As of July 5, Team Taiwan had snagged 80 medals, including 33 gold, at the WPFG 2025 games held in Birmingham, Alabama. Three more medals were reported in combat sports over the weekend, in men’s boxing and women’s Taekwondo.
Chen Peng-chun (陳鵬畯), a firefighter from New Taipei’s Sanchong District, won gold in men’s boxing in the 70kg weight class against an opponent from China. Chen has been boxing since his youth and has served as a firefighter for almost five and a half years.
Video of the match was shared by the New Taipei Fire Department and is available to view at CNA.

A policewoman from Taichung, Wang Yi-hsin (王翊馨) of the city’s traffic police division, took two golds in separate Taekwondo events of “sparring” and “poomsae,” or sequence demonstrations, reported CNA. Showcasing incredible skill, Wang also took a silver medal in the competition for individuals over 30, and a bronze in mixed doubles.
Wang began studying Taekwondo when she was in elementary school. In high school, she even overcame ligament reconstruction surgery in her feet, without giving up her passion for the sport.
The New Taipei Fire Department and the Taichung City Police Department praised the athletes’ outstanding performance. The athletes’ hard work and perseverance brought honor and international recognition to Taiwan, per press releases.
