TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Top Taiwan defense contractors targeted by new Chinese supply restrictions said Wednesday they were not worried about the measures.
The companies said the supply chains for their defense products did not include China, CNA reported. Beijing’s Ministry of Commerce slapped restrictions on the supply of products for double civilian and military use on eight Taiwan companies, per UDN.
One of the eight companies, Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation, said the measure would only affect its civilian business, and only to a limited extent. The company said it was evaluating the impact of the Chinese measures and would be looking for suitable alternatives.
CSBC Corporation, Taiwan, the manufacturer of Taiwan’s first indigenous submarine and ships for the Navy and Coast Guard, said its military business relied on suppliers in Europe and the US, while its commercial vessels sourced materials from Japan and South Korea.
Lungteh Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. also downplayed the impact of the sanctions, saying most of the items it imported from China could easily be replaced by materials from other countries.
The Chinese list also included the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology, Geosat Aerospace and Technology Inc., Jong Shyn Shipbuilding Group, drone maker JcTech, and Gong Wei Co., Ltd.
