TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) left for Paraguay on Wednesday to explore how Taiwan’s technological strengths can drive the Latin American nation's tech sector development.
The foreign minister is leading a business delegation for semiconductor, ICT, and smart transportation companies. The foreign ministry said the visit aims to promote global industrial integration for Taiwan’s businesses, strengthen Taiwan-Paraguay trade relations and supply chain connectivity.
Lin will meet with Paraguay President Santiago Pena and hold talks with Foreign Minister Ruben Ramirez and other senior officials, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Lin will inspect several Taiwan-Paraguay joint initiatives, including the Taiwan-Paraguay Smart Technology Park and the Taiwan-Paraguay University of Science and Technology, per the foreign ministry.
Lin is also slated to co-host a reception celebrating the 68th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Taiwan and Paraguay.
The foreign minister’s visit comes after Taiwan began offering tariff concessions on 17 Paraguayan products, including frozen boneless pork and preserved bovine offal, on Saturday. The concessions were agreed upon in Resolution No. 8 of the Economic Cooperation Agreement signed last year.
