TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taipei is ranked as the second safest city to walk alone at night, according to a British long-haul travel agency.
On Friday, Travelbag announced its list of the safest long-haul destinations to explore at night. To determine the top 10 safest cities, long-haul travel experts at Travelbag analyzed over 100 of the world’s most popular destinations, with a particular focus on each city’s "safety to walk at night" score.
Abu Dhabi ranks first as the safest city for walking alone at night, with a score of 87. Taipei came in close second with a score of 85 for safety when walking solo in the evening.
“Known for its clean streets, good lighting, and low crime, the city’s lively night markets and urban areas are safe for locals and tourists alike," the travel site said. It pointed out that travelers particularly enjoy Taipei 101 after dark, "when the iconic tower is beautifully lit and offers stunning nighttime views."
The travel service noted that Taipei transforms into a lively hub at night with bustling night markets such as Shilin and Raohe. It pointed out that these markets are places where visitors can “sample authentic Taiwanese street food and soak up the lively local atmosphere featuring street performers, late-night shopping, and more.”
Dubai and Kyoto tied for third with a score of 83, while Chiang Mai placed fourth at 80. Singapore and Quebec City tied in fifth with a mark of 77. With a score of 77, Muscat and Hong Kong tied for sixth, and Tokyo finished seventh, scoring a 75.
