TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Changhua County Government, along with 42 local volunteers and skilled workers, formed a team Monday to assist with post-Typhoon Danas recovery in Tainan's Qigu District.
The relief efforts focus on environmental cleanup, house repairs, and providing supplies. Changhua’s Environmental Protection Bureau said that it led a team of 20 personnel and dispatched approximately 15 heavy machines for the cleanup work, with plans to support the area for five days, per CNA.
The county’s Huatan Township Office will also send four workers and four heavy machines on Tuesday to assist with the efforts.
Typhoon Danas affected central and southern Taiwan from July 6 to 7. In Tainan’s Qigu District, some areas experienced power and water outages lasting more than a week. Xiliao Village in the district was severely flooded due to seawater intrusion triggered by the typhoon.
Many residents' roofs in the district were also damaged. According to the city government, the district needs approximately 600 tarps to temporarily cover roofs. However, since installing the tarps requires skilled workers, the agency said that it is mobilizing volunteers and emergency personnel to assist.
Dachan Great Wall Group, headquartered in Changhua and primarily focused on meat and feed production, has provided 3,000 tarps for free. The company said that it has arranged for the county’s Agricultural Department to transport them to the disaster area in Tainan.
The Ministry of National Defense added that it has deployed over 3,000 soldiers and equipment to assist with disaster relief in Tainan, primarily focusing on clearing roads. Additionally, the interior ministry has dispatched 1,350 substitute military service personnel to help with environmental cleanup in Tainan, Chiayi, and Yunlin.
