TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Wistron held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new research and development center in Taipei's Neihu District on Monday.
Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) attended the ceremony and said the facility is expected to create 1,500 new jobs after completion. The building will also help Taipei transform into an AI-driven smart city and will soon become an AI technology corridor, per Liberty Times.
Chiang said Wistron's new construction comes soon after Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) chose the Beitou-Shilin Science Park as its first overseas headquarters, with a natural corridor linking Neihu and the Nangang Biotech Park.
Wistron President and CEO Jeff Lin (林建勳) said that the R&D building is expected to be completed by 2028. The project is located just one kilometer from the company's new headquarters and is also near the company's BOT project, Digital Content Innovation Center.
Lin said Wistron acquired a 60-year lease for 6,407 square meters in Neihu's Tanmei area. The company plans to construct eight floors above ground and four floors underground, with the finished building fully compliant with eco-friendly and smart building conventions.
News media have reported the cost of the R&D center at NT$2.7 billion (US$92 million).
