TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Army's First Combat Zone conducted a live-fire drill early Monday morning, simulating a Chinese amphibious assault on Penghu.
Troops were deployed armed with machine guns and Javelin missiles to strike high-value enemy targets, Military News Agency reported. Howitzers then provided long-range suppressive fire. M60A3 tanks and CM21 armored vehicles carried out a final sweep to neutralize remaining enemy forces.
The drill was designed to hone command procedures and improve coordination in weapons engagement, per MNA. It also served as a practical review of joint combat command and control effectiveness.
The Matsu Defense Command also held a drill Monday morning, simulating Chinese forces using fishing vessels and drones to launch an amphibious assault under the guise of gray-zone tactics, CNA reported. A special forces unit was deployed, along with artillery and drones.
