TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Responding to growing popularity, Taoyuan Metro Corporation is adding extra Taoyuan Airport Mass Rapid Transit trains departing Zhongli.
Beginning July 21, one extra early train will leave Laojie River Station at 5:33 a.m. to head for Taipei. The extra late train departs from Laojie River Station at 11:50 p.m. to stop at every station before arriving at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport Terminal 2 at 0:22 a.m. and Terminal 1 at 0:23 a.m., per CNA.
The expansion of services followed the stable growth of the number of passengers for the airport MRT system, the metro company said. The average daily number of passengers increased from 90,210 in 2023 to 114,472 in 2024 to 126,931 during the first half of this year.
Metro passengers heading to and from the airport rose from 25,690 per day in 2023 to 34,086 in 2024 to 36,649 during the first half of 2025. The proportion of travelers using the airport MRT to travel to and from the airport amounted to 40.34% during the first five months of 2025, or 3.9% more than during the same period last year.
The change shows that more travelers appreciate the convenience of taking the Taoyuan MRT to reach the airport, or to head home after an overseas trip.
