TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) visited a Taipower worker on life support at a hospital in Tainan on Wednesday morning.
The worker, surnamed Li (李), was injured the previous day while restoring power due to damage from Typhoon Danas. After being shocked, he lost vital signs, requiring continuous resuscitation efforts as he was rushed to the hospital, per the Presidential Office.
After arriving at the Chi Mei Medical Center, he was revived and connected to an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation machine and placed under critical care. The hospital said he sustained burns to 20% of his body, mainly the upper torso.

Lai went to the man's bedside in the intensive care unit and told him that "everyone is waiting for him to recover." Afterwards, Lai went to a hospital waiting area to comfort his family.
Lai was accompanied at the hospital by Economics Minister Kuo Jyh-huei (郭智輝), Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲), and Taipower Chair Tseng Wen-sheng (曾文生). Each member of the delegation also wished him a speedy recovery.
During the visit, Lai expressed remorse that he was electrocuted while repairing the power grid in Chiayi. He instructed the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Taipower to investigate the cause of the accident to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
Lai also hoped Taiwan's opposition parties would recognize the hard work of Taipower employees and fully support the utility. He said that despite the urgency of emergency repairs, safety must come first.
He also thanked Taipower executives and employees who are still on the front lines of emergency repairs. He applauded their progress in restoring power in the wake of Typhoon Danas.
