TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Wistron announced Wednesday a NT$2.96 billion (US$100.9 million) investment in its US operations as it ramps up AI server production to meet surging demand.
The company’s board approved a NT$1.32 billion capital injection into its US subsidiary, WisLab EMS, and up to NT$1.64 billion to upgrade WisLab’s existing facilities in California, per TechNews. The funds will support AI server development, testing, and manufacturing, per CNA.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for a new R&D center in Taipei’s Neihu District, Wistron CEO Lin Chien-hsun (林建勳) said the California facility, previously used for medical products, will be retooled for AI-related production. He added that mass production at a new Texas facility remains on track to begin in Q1 2026.
Wistron has no plans to shift PC manufacturing to the US, Lin explained, but emphasized the company’s agility in adjusting to global policy shifts. “Although Trump has announced new tariffs, the details are unclear. That makes strategic planning challenging,” he said.
So far, clients have not requested changes to existing orders. However, Lin said the company is closely monitoring trade developments and remains flexible in its operations.
Wistron has plans to handle potential disruptions, Lin added, noting the company’s diversified footprint across Taiwan, Southeast Asia, and Europe.
