The CWA issued a sea warning for Tropical Storm Wipha at 11:30 a.m.
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tropical Storm Wipha formed early Friday morning and is expected to bring rain across Taiwan.
As of 2 a.m., the storm was 710 kilometers southeast of Cape Eluanbi, moving northwest at 19 kph, per CNA. It packed maximum sustained winds of 72 kph and gusts of up to 100 kph.
Meteorologist Daniel Wu (吳德榮) said Wipha will pass through the Bashi Channel into the South China Sea by Tuesday and may make landfall in Guangdong. A sea warning is unlikely but cannot be completely ruled out.

Wu forecasts hot weather Friday with afternoon showers in the west, advising caution because of sunburn and heat exhaustion. From the afternoon, outer bands of the storm will bring scattered showers to the east.
Temperatures will range from 25 to 37 C in the north, 23 to 36 C in central and southern Taiwan, and 23 to 35 C in the east. On Saturday and Sunday, the storm’s periphery will bring rain to the west and potentially heavy rainfall to eastern Taiwan and Pingtung.
From Monday to Thursday, Wu said a monsoon system with abundant moisture and a developing tropical system could bring severe weather. He advised the public to monitor updates closely as the situation evolves.
