TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Taoyuan City Government has established the Taoyuan Aerotropolis Museum, which will begin trial operations this Thursday.
Taoyuan repurposed the former hangars of the historic Black Cat Squadron and other heritage sites to create the museum, according to the Military News Agency. The first exhibition, which runs until Aug. 31, showcases the life stories, personal letters, and manuscripts of General Chou Chih-jou (周至柔), a pioneer of the Taiwan Air Force.
Chou achieved numerous military successes during the Second Sino-Japanese War, including assisting British forces during their retreat from Burma and accompanying Chiang Kai-shek (蔣介石) to the Cairo Conference.
The Taoyuan City Government said the hangar spaces of the museum have been upgraded to meet cultural heritage preservation standards. This museum brings World War II history to life, and will become a landmark of aviation culture development in Taoyuan, it added.
