TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan’s export orders surged 24.6% year-on-year to reach NT$1.67 trillion (US$56.77 billion) in June given persistent demand for AI, high performance computing, and cloud products, the Ministry of Economic Affairs said Tuesday.
The figure was the second-highest ever for export orders in June. The month’s results also marked the fifth consecutive month of increases, per CNA.
Export orders from January to June totaled NT$9.6 billion, or 16,6% more than the same period last year.
Orders for information technology and electronics products reached a record level for the month of June, each surging more than 30% from June last year to NT$539 billion and NT$$581 billion respectively, according to the ministry.
The products of traditional industries suffered under competition from lower-priced goods from other countries. The plastics and rubber sector declined 11.4% compared to June 2024, and the chemical industry saw export orders drop 8.7%. Basic metals recorded a fall of 10.2%.
However, orders for machinery rose 10.6% due to demand for automation equipment and machine tools.
