TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — An Indonesian couple was killed in a housefire in Yilan County’s Suao Township on Tuesday afternoon.
Yilan County Fire Department received the report at 1:28 p.m. and dispatched personnel and vehicles to the scene, per CNA. When firefighters arrived, the first floor was already engulfed in flames, with thick black smoke pouring out.
They brought the blaze under control by 1:49 p.m. and extinguished it by 2:15 p.m. During their search, firefighters found a pregnant woman without vital signs on the staircase between the second and third floors.
Before finishing their search of the second floor and moving to the third, they discovered the body of a man in the bathroom. Both were declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.
According to police, the building was shared by Indonesian and Filipino couples. The woman was six to seven months pregnant, while her husband worked as a cement laborer.
