TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Taiwan High Court on Thursday upheld a four-year prison sentence for former National Security Bureau agent Peng Shun-fu (彭順富), who posted classified information on a Chinese website.
Appeals are still possible, per CNA. Peng worked at the intelligence agency from 1995 to 2006 before seeking employment in China.
In 2018, he posted details of his career on a job site operated by China’s Ministry of Education. His post included research he conducted while at the agency, along with information about sources, agents, and organizations.
The work was classified and could not be disclosed under the Classified National Security Information Protection Act. The Taoyuan District Court ruled that Peng had violated the law and sentenced him to four years in prison. The High Court rejected his appeal.
The court said someone in Peng’s position should have understood the importance of intelligence work to national security. Yet, in order to obtain a teaching job in China, he disregarded the training and responsibility entrusted to him. The court also noted that Peng maintained he was not guilty and showed no remorse.
