TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taipei’s newest department store, Dream Plaza, held its grand opening Friday in the city’s Xinyi District.
Located near Taipei City Hall MRT Station, Dream Plaza occupies the property that formerly housed the Elite department store, which closed in December 2023. Uni-President Group invested approximately NT$1 billion into renovations and preparations, per CNA.
Dream Plaza now features Taiwan’s largest Starbucks, which has been designated the company’s flagship location in the country. Situated on the sixth floor, the store includes five separate service areas, each offering exclusive drinks and products available only at Dream Plaza.

The department store also includes the first brick-and-mortar retail location for the online bookseller books.com.tw. Covering more than 3,000 square meters, the store is open 24 hours a day.
More than 300 brands are represented at Dream Plaza, including a wide array of restaurants, pubs, cafes, and a Mia C’bon supermarket.
There were large crowds and opening day was not without issues. Power outages struck the B2 food court multiple times, including during the lunch hour, due to excessive electricity demand. The outages temporarily disrupted operations for some vendors, per UDN.
