TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Ishikawa Prefecture on Tuesday donated NT$199,934 (US$6,729) to Taiwan for recovery aid following Typhoon Danas.
Ishikawa Governor Hiroshi Hase entrusted Hotta Toru, director of Ishikawa Prefecture’s Tokyo Office, with the handover to Taiwan Representative Lee I-yang (李逸洋), CNA reported.
Lee said that Typhoon Danas caused widespread damage to buildings and crops in southern Taiwan, and recovery efforts are in full swing. The support from Ishikawa Prefecture while it is rebuilding after the Noto earthquake last year is a tremendous encouragement to Taiwan, he said.
He said that Taiwan and Japan are friends who support each other in difficult times. “Even in the face of natural calamities, our hearts remain closely connected."
Hotta said that when the Noto earthquake struck, Taiwan provided significant support. After the typhoon hit Taiwan, Ishikawa Prefecture wanted to do its part and offer a small donation in return. He hoped that Taiwan and Ishikawa could work together to complete post-disaster recovery and strengthen their friendship.
Typhoon Danas hit southern Taiwan earlier this month, killing two and injuring more than 500.
