TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) on Monday welcomed a visiting Belize delegation led by Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Amalia Mai.
Mai is in Taiwan to attend the second Taiwan–Belize Economic Cooperation Agreement (ECA) administrative committee meeting and an investment and trade promotion seminar, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Lin said the Taiwanese government is assisting Belize with white shrimp exports and expressed hope that economic and trade exchanges would further deepen bilateral ties.
Mai emphasized that the friendship between Taiwan and Belize is rooted in shared democratic values and human rights. She reaffirmed her commitment to exploring new opportunities for bilateral trade cooperation.
Taiwan’s scholarship programs have made it the top overseas study destination for Belizean students, Mai said, adding that the scholarships are well-regarded in Belize and have contributed to national development.
The two officials exchanged views on the ECA and broader economic cooperation. They also discussed collaboration in scholarship programs, Taiwan’s Global Pathfinders Initiative, and tourism.
MOFA said Taiwan and Belize have maintained a strong friendship since establishing diplomatic ties in 1989, and continue to cooperate in areas such as infrastructure, public health, education, and culture.
