TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Keelung, New Taipei, Taipei, and Taoyuan launched a joint tourism campaign in Singapore on Wednesday to draw more Southeast Asian travelers to northern Taiwan.
The four cities hosted a promotional event called Shiok You Around on Wednesday, highlighting natural landscapes, cultural attractions, and local lifestyles, per CNA. “Shiok,” a popular term in Singapore and Malaysia, means delightful or satisfying.
Tourism officials from all four cities attended the event, along with Shih Chih-chung (施志忠), director of the Singapore Office of the Tourism Administration. More than 70 travel professionals from Singapore and Malaysia joined, with local agencies National Association of Travel Agents Singapore and Malaysian Chinese Tourism Association signing tourism cooperation MOUs with the Taiwan delegation.
Taiwan’s representative to Singapore, Tung Chen-yuan (童振源), said visitors who begin their journey in Taipei can easily branch out to nearby cities for a richer experience. Organizers said the campaign uses the word to tap into shared regional vibes while promoting major festivals and themed itineraries.
Tung spotlighted Yangmingshan’s mountain views, Maokong’s tea culture, Keelung’s port charm. Together, these destinations present a seamless mix of city, nature, and local flavor, he said.
Shih commented that the partnership allows each city to retain its identity while improving Taiwan’s appeal. He added that Singapore is a well-established travel market, and targeted promotions could help visitors rediscover Taiwan’s evolving cultural and tourism offerings.
